How does it work?

The IUS is a small T-shaped plastic device that is put into your uterus and releases progestogen hormone which is similar to the hormone naturally produced.

It thickens the mucus in the cervix preventing sperm reaching the egg and thins the lining of the uterus so it is less likely to accept a fertilised egg.

Where can I get it?

The IUS is fitted by a trained doctor or nurse.  This can be done at either your GP practice or local sexual health clinic [link to how to find us]
