Mpox is a rare viral infection that usually causes a high temperature (fever) and a body rash that lasts a few weeks.
As mpox is caused by a virus similar to the one that causes smallpox, vaccines designed for smallpox will help prevent or reduce the severity of mpox.
It is a 2-dose vaccination course, and a second dose of the vaccine can be given at least 28 days after the first.
